i been busy

seriously! who knew. also in case you havent heard, brother robin is coming down here in 3 weeks! and he is staying for 3 weeks. i'm really excited... i can't speak for him though.

THESE are just some of the adorable kids that come around the habitat for humanity work sites. the people that organize it said its normal to spend half the time working on the house and half the time playing with the kids. we dug trenches for the foundation this time and my back was sore for 4 days. i also got the hugest bruise that turned to yellow. cool.

This is a picture from the jewelry class but neither of these backs are mine. this is how we melt silver down. We just finished making wire which took like 9 hours and then i made mine TOO THIN. we are going to make chains out of the wire but we dont have class this week and im on vacation next week so i will be behind. yikes stripes.

this is my friend and i with giant lemons at a concert. the show was really good. it was Goldfish, go look them up on itunes.

this was in the bathrooms at Spier, where the concert was. its this huge fancy touristy weird place. they have wine i guess? but i think people dont care about their wine that much. but engaged.. thats good right?

I was going to rugby all the mondays but now the varsity cup is over. "We" won, we being the Maties, the stellenbosch U team- nele makes fun of me for saying WE. it's okay. but yeah i guess the Maties are important or something. i dont understand sports i just get over anxious at the end unless the score is 8-54.. but the stadium is surrounded by the mountains and one monday the mountains were on fire which was really dramatic.

I took the kids to the final game but didnt realize it was the final game in the tournament and we left at half time. Also this dude Kurt Darren performed at the very beginning and end.. he is a huge deal in the world of afrikaans music ... try and find his song Kaptein (from the album Uit Die Diepte Van My Hart) it was voted THE song of the varsity cup so they played it like every 3 minutes. it could probably also be voted THE song of THE century. kurt darren, really talented guy. there is also a song by some other corny afrikaans singer and the words say something like, "its always summer for the Stellenbosch students"

The Beach. It's so nice.

The Mall. It's so not nice.

I also went to a show at the Kirstenbosch Gardens, the garden was nice but the concert was only 40 minutes which was really frustrating. I'm still trying to surf and still failing. This last weekend i went to the Cape Town International Jazz Festival which was fun but confusing to get around so we wasted a lot of time trying to figure things out. And i guess Dianne Reeves was there but we couldnt find her stage and didnt realize she was important. woops. Mos Def played but showed up late and people were booing.

UMMMM. oh. i went to this american breakfast thing with some wives of international professors. i took chocolate chip cookies and they were all gone and someone asked for the recipe which i had memorized (yes im bragging, yes you can also have the recipe) it was really weird and funny to hear people from arizona and texas talk about america because their version of america and mine is kinda different.

I thought I'd lost ya' there for a month or so! Sounds like you've been busy becoming a native south african or whatever the term for that is. Ive been trying to surf in Malibu too(but the sharks keep trying to eat me).
