ookkk happy halloween to the americans. and happy birthday to the rosie.

so apparently no one cares about halloween here. but there were 3 weird shaped whitish green pumpkins at the grocery store so we carved those and im sure we stopped traffic when we put them outside because whos seen a lit pumpkin in SA? zero.


also here is a mask i made (not actually for halloween) hopefully they let me take it home with me so i dont have to even think about my costume for next year. im a professional call me with orders and enquiries.


AND! two weeks ago i think.. i went on a hike on a sunday and this is as far up the mountain as i got:


and then i took a break with this lady from the ukraine (shes actually been here for 10 years..) and we decided not to continue on with the hike with the rest of the group(actually we didnt have a choice because the trail after our rest stop was boulders and trees with no path whatsoever... this is a good excuse.. we actually wouldnt have taken the trail if there had been one) we were there long enough and my feet stayed still long enough that this guy was confident he wouldnt go flying off when(IF) i started hiking again...


so anyway, we walked back down the mountain and on the dirt road for like 5 km until we found another trail which led to 2 seperate waterfalls. the second one was neat and we had to climb all over the place. also the sole (i first spelled that like "soul" ha.) of my hiking boots fell off so that was a bonus.

but anyway- last night i went with some people ( i knew one of these people) to this restaurant called Spur which is supposed to be really american or something? the theme of the place is native americans.. all over is printed indian chiefs. also arent spurs like the thing on the bottom of the cowboy boots? anyway. it was really funny there and i had a quesadilla and the waiter pronounced it quazi- dilah (with the L sound not the LL spanish sound..) and they had indian headdresses made of cardboard for the kids. this was a place at the beach we went to see the sun set but we didnt even touch the sand we watched the sunset from the parking lot and then went into spur (there is also a Spur in stellenbosch and 3 other locations on the way to the beach) soooo not so sure on the logic there but i wasnt tryna start a fight.

lets see what else. im still trying to learn german. and. on thursday i applied for a temporary library card! exciting! i have to pay them 60 rand and i can only take one book out at a time because im a foreigner.

last week i went to mystic and bohemia which im sure mom and dad will be especially excited to know is one of the famous brutal police raid places in stellenbosch.. i think its on youtube? but i didnt get police raided and they were having a um.. tim burton what is that movie? The Nightmare Before christmas costume thing. so it was really weird and everyone looked like they were dead so if i ever go there agian i think that will be my expectation.. dont let me down.

oh also really great is that they are already playing christmas music nonstop in Woolworths! ha! so good. and they have christmas trees up and all the decorations and there are signs all over the store saying 1001 Reasons to Love Christmas! and the signs are like hanging over the "THIS JUST IN" swimsuits and stuff. its sort of like christmas in july i guess. but not..
